Brand design is often one of the first things that a small business invests in and for good reason! Having a professional brand in place isn’t just a checklist item for a small business.
Good branding is a way to increase your perceived value (and prices!), focus and amplify your marketing efforts, and feel increasingly confident as a business owner. That’s good business!
Perceived value is why people pay exorbitant prices for luxury goods, even when the cost of producing those goods is significantly lower than the price tag. It’s not about the value of the object, but rather the perceived value.
Now, you don’t have to position yourself as a luxury brand to take an advantage of an increase in perceived value. Simply having cohesive, professional looking design increases your perceived value. For many soloprenuers, professional branding takes them from looking like a hobbyist to the fully established business that they truly are.
Before good design comes brand strategy. Brand strategy helps you identify your ideal customers and gives you a plan for how to communicate effectively with them both through your messaging and then through your visual design.
Marketing is useless if it’s not being seen by the right people so good design is an opportunity for you to refocus your marketing efforts to the right people, with the right messaging, and the right design.
There are hundreds of things that go into my process when designing a brand, but one of those things is making sure the branding is memorable and worth sharing. Good design is memorable design. Good design is consistently applied design.
I want your customers to think your packaging looks so good that they share it on their Instagram feed. I want to make sure that your branding is so consistent that your customers cannot forget about you. Good branding makes people talk and that’s free marketing baby!
When and how to increase your prices as a small business can be a tricky puzzle to solve. If you’re like me, you’re always putting this task off. Rebranding at least gives you an answer to the “when”.
When announcing a rebrand, your customers will often expect your prices to change to align with your new branding. It won’t feel out of the blue as long as you tease your rebrand changes before fully implementing them.
It'’s time to take advantage of your increase in perceived value as mentioned above to increase your prices to match.
This is maybe on the surface the least academic take on here, but you know it’s true! When we look our best, we feel our best.
When we feel aligned with our branding, we’re more likely to use that branding and show up on social media with that branding and messaging. Good design makes you feel good and as a small business owner, you feeling good is absolutely essential to your business’ success.
Should that be my new business tagline? Seriously though, I’d love to work with you on your rebranding project. Check out the rest of my website to learn more about what I do and how I can help you!
