The Long Weekend is a fashion and lifestyle brand created by Elizabeth Venter that sells hand-made knits, knitting patterns, vintage and thrifted clothing, as well as their own clothing line. Specializing in style bundles, Elizabeth crafts personalized collections for her customers, elevating their style with carefully selected treasures that reflect Elizabeth’s extensive knowledge of fashion and thrifting.
The creative direction for this brand was inspired by the nineties, as are the brand’s offerings. I chose bright, bold colors, serif fonts, and took inspiration from Elizabeth’s life and social media presence so that the brand can really show off her unique talents.
For this project, I created a brand identity as well as packaging designs, merchandise designs, and downloadable knitting patterns. Elizabeth is always cooking up new knitting patterns so we work together on an ongoing basis to get those patterns designed using her brand identity.
Elysian is a bath and candle brand determined to make every day spa day. While they sell high quality luxury products, they don’t take themselves too seriously. Elysian’s ideal customers are often too busy to make time for self care and can’t justify the cost of going to a spa to relax.
The goals for this branding were to create something elegant, modern, cheeky, minimal, and calming. In order to communicate the duality of the Elysian brand (they provide luxury products but they do it in a way that is accessible to everyone), I used two very different fonts: the script font Sloop Script communicates elegance and femininity and the hand-drawn sans serif Salemo font is more casual and relatable.I really wanted to steer clear of the overused blues, greens, and tans of the spa and at-home spa brands.
While color psychology tells us those are good colors to choose, I am always looking at the big picture and the strategy behind the branding. This brand needs to stand out in the crowd and communicate what makes them different: they aren’t the stuffy inaccessible spa brand you’re used to seeing, but they do have the same high quality products! Bright colors mixed with calming neutrals provided this brand with that balance.
As a book nerd, one of my favorite passion projects is for a bookstore that oozes creativity and charm. Book Mouse isn’t just a bookstore; it’s a cherished community hub with a rich history and a mission to foster a love of reading in people of all ages. The branding that I created for them embraces the charm of traditional bookstores while seamlessly integrating modern elements, creating a unique blend of nostalgia and contemporary comfort.
Warm earthy tones dominate the color palette, reflecting the wood floors, green paint, and pages of old books. Hand-drawn illustrations, including a cute mouse mascot, depart from modern minimalistic styles, emphasizing the brand’s commitment to its heritage. The mouse mascot gives character to the brand and provides a connection point with families with young children.
The branding for this book store included several print collateral items such as cafe loyalty cards and bookmarks as well as a pattern of hand-drawn illustrations that is extremely versatile and can be used in a variety of settings and different colorways.
